Composting tips and ideas

When I was living in a suburban house I just dug down all the food scraps near the hedge. It works very well and makes complete logistical sense. Imagine people still throwing out valuable food scraps in the garbage so it can be driven away in a garbage truck and burned or something.... insanity is real.

Nowadays i have a multiple compost piles and put the food scraps there and cover with rice straw. The only caveat is that domesticated neighboring animals like chicken unfortunately feed on my compost. It's quite hard to keep them out. I want to try to keep things simple, but I might need to build proper compost containers... or find a way to keep the domesticated animals away. Maybe a flamethrower?
